ITW: 25 years later, symposium

Joanna reunited with Chip Zien (original Baker) and Danielle Ferland (original Little Red Riding Hood, now playing the Baker’s Wife in the Westport production) for a discussion about what it was like to work with Sondheim during the making of Into the Woods.

From this article about the reunion of sorts Joanna is quoted as follows:

Gleason called Sondheim “a genius—once you do a Sondheim show you have a stamp in your career passport.”

Joanna will reunite with Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood) and Chip Zien (The Baker) for a symposium on Into The Woods as part of West Port County Playhouse’s Sunday Symposium, to be held on Sunday, May 6 following the 3pm matinee of Westport’s production of Into the Woods.

In an upcoming production of Into The Woods, Kim Crosby (who played Cinderella in the original Broadway cast) will be playing the role of the Baker’s Wife.

According to this article, Joanna recorded the part of The Giant for the upcoming production of Into The Woods at the Staples High School in Westport.

Joanna is a local resident and as I’m sure all of the readers here know she originated the part of The Baker’s Wife and won a Tony Award for her efforts.

It is reported that Joanna graciously took time to meet with the lucky cast and the article has numerous quotes from students about the topics that they got to discuss with her.

Video: Look I Made A Hat

First off, let me tell you that if you don’t already own a copy of Sondheim’s Look I Made A Hat then you are missing out on some fantastic Broadway information.

Now that we have that out of the way, if you’re looking for more info check out BroadwayWorld’s coverage of the release of Look I Made A Hat from November 2011. Along with tons links to other great videos there are two great videos of Joanna.

The first is a look-back-in-time to her performing with the original cast and the second (scroll down a little more after you find the first one) is a capture of Joanna singing with Chip at Sondheim’s birthday party. This was a great concert and its appearance on PBS made us buy a whole new HD TV just to watch that.

There is some great stuff about Joanna in Sonheim’s book and we are working on our own little piece about that to run a few days from now.

ITW Movie Talk

There’s been some talk online recently about the possibility of the making of an Into The Woods movie. This actually isn’t the first time that such talk has occurred. In the 1990s there was talk about making an animated film version. Now the talk seems to be about a film adaptation using a live actors.

There are people who think that this would be a great movie and there are others that seem to think this would do a disservice to the Into The Woods story. Either way, since Joanna was in the original cast and won her Tony Award for it, she invariably gets mentioned each time that the subject is brought up.

I’m still not Joanna

Despite my attempts to limit links to this site to list it as a fan site and my mentioning it on several place here, I continue to get emails assuming I am Joanna Gleason. I am not, nor have I ever been her.

Sure, I’ve met her, had my picture taken with her, even shook her hand once, but I’m not her. Nor do I have any direct contact with her. No more than you do when you go to her shows and read about her on the internet.

This blog has seemed to generate a lot more trafffic to the site: a good thing if this helps her career. But it has brought with it a new series of “I Love you, you are so pretty” emails to me.

Do you really think if she was running this site she’d be so vain as to make a collage of photos of herself and run that at the top of her own blog?

Plus, I’m sure her spelling is a lot betterer thna min.
